Asian Carp Invasion Found Near Great Lakes, Lake Michigan

Asian Carp Invasion Found Near Great Lakes, Lake Michigan

Long regarded by environmentalists as a “nightmare scenario,” the Great Lakes may now

have been invaded by the dreaded Asian carp. These fish have made their way from

waterways in Chicago into Lake Calumet, which is located just a very short 6 miles

away from Lake Michigan.

The Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee in Chicago has announced that

their staff fished out one of the invasive Asian carp from the lake on Tuesday.

Recently there has been significant DNA evidence gathered that indicated that

this overpowering fish had managed to make his way past an electrical barrier set up

with the intention of blocking their migration from canals into the Great Lakes.

Government officials and environmentalists fear the intrusion by the huge carp,

not only because of their size, which will allow them to be able to dominate other

species, but also because of their legendary huge appetites.  These Asian carp also

reproduce very in large quantities, allowing them to overpopulate most any waters

that they inhabit.

Environmentalists are said to be extremely disappointed that the warnings and requests

for serious action to stop the spread of the fish had not been fully heeded, and now it

may be too late to stop the carp overrunning these huge inland seas.

Here’s a video about the Asian Carp invasion:

The video looks like it was done with a cell phone camera

but the message is very clear!!
